“The strength of the pack is the wolf.

The strength of the wolf is the pack.”

~Rudyard Kipling

Government is not a big mystery. It is a natural phenomenon that is not even unique to us human beings.

Anyone who has watched a documentary on the wildlife of Alaska knows that wolves hunt in packs and caribou migrate in herds.

Fish school. Even insects swarm and live in “colonies.”

Humans group in families, clans, tribes, fiefdoms, nations and states. Why? The same basic reasons as packs of wolves, herds of caribou, prides of lions, murders of monkeys, schools of mackerel, hives of bees, pods of dolphin and clans of hyenas exist:

Protection from threats and harm – you know, like how caribou find safety in numbers, even keeping their calves in the center of the herd, as far away from hungry predators as possible; and

Acquiring the basic necessities of life – you know, like how wolves hunt as a team to bring down a caribou to feed themselves and their cubs to stay alive, thereby perpetuating the species.

That’s it, really. It’s not rocket science. It’s nature.

Leave it to human nature, though, to pervert and prostitute it. That is called politics, which is a whole other chapter.
